In Loving Memory of Susan Harwood Bargas
Susan Harwood Bargas, a beloved wife, devoted mother, and cherished friend, passed away peacefully on August 23rd, 2023, in Weatherford, Texas. She was 81 years old.
Born in St. Louis, Illinois, Susan's family lived in Panama for a short time before settling in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Always up for adventure, Susan spent her teenage years on a team of trick water skiers performing on lakes throughout the region. Although they met in high school, it was at her very first job as an administrative assistant for TJM Corporation that Susan was reintroduced to her future husband, Rodney Bargas. Their love story spanned 52 wonderful years.
Susan and Rodney moved their family back and forth between Louisiana and Texas, eventually finding their home in the heart of Texas. She thoroughly enjoyed motherhood and was very active in her children’s lives. She was a room mother for both her children throughout their elementary school years and supported them through high school with their sports and many other activities.
Once her children were grown, Susan returned to work for the Service Center at Boeing Electronics in Irving, Texas. Throughout her tenure there, she grew into quite the corporate professional and formed amazing friendships that enriched her life. During her free time, the dining room table was consistently occupied by a project. Quilting and crafting with friends around the table were two of her favorite pastimes during this season of life.
Upon retirement, Susan and Rodney moved to Pittsburgh, Texas, to the banks of Lake Bob Sandlin where she was very active in her community and church. She loved hosting her children’s families on the weekends and planned special time with each grandchild during the summer. She was a member of the Red Hats, volunteered at The Clothes Closet, participated in Vacation Bible School at First Baptist Church, and was an active member in Bible study class.
In their final years, Susan and Rodney moved to Weatherford, Texas, to be close in proximity to their children. It was there that she found a church home at North Side Baptist Church, enjoyed frequent family gatherings, and was reunited with her long-time best friends, Pat and Sandie. During this time, she was also a devoted wife who took amazing care of Rodney during his battle with Parkinson’s Disease.
Susan will be remembered for her infectious laugh that had the power to brighten any room. Her laughter was a reflection of her ability to find joy in life's simplest pleasures. Everywhere she went, her endearing laugh was a blessing to all that knew and met her.
Susan was preceded in death by her husband, Rodney Bargas. She is survived by her children, Jeff Bargas and his wife, Melanie, and Jennifer Younger and husband, Mark; and cherished grandchildren, Madison Bargas, Jonathan Bargas, Karson Younger, and Kameron Younger. Her memory will forever live on in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing her.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, September 9th, at 10:30 a.m., at North Side Baptist Church, 910 N. Main Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
