William “Bill” Robert King, 79 years of age, went home to his Lord and Savior on April 23, 2020. Bill was born on July 3, 1940, in Center, Colorado, to Lee and Ruby King.
Bill was preceded in death by both parents; his siblings, Gladys Gilder, Edith Twite, Jack King, Betty Harlow, and Ronald King; and his wife, Janet King.
Bill is survived by his children: William King of Weatherford; Ronald King of Weatherford; Laurie Coleman and husband, Wesley of Sierra Vista, Arizona; Sharon Grissom and husband, Randall of Weatherford; Ken Schimmelbusch and wife, Kymra of Weatherford; and his previous wife and mother of his children, Alynne King, also of Weatherford. He is also survived by 8 Grandchildren; 12 Great Grandchildren; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Bill proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1961 to 1981 when he retired. The majority of his military career was in the Signal Command where he was responsible for establishing communications. Bill did numerous tours during the Vietnam War where he earned many awards, including: The Silver Star; The Bronze Star and the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry. Throughout his Army career Bill was stationed in many foreign countries including Italy, Germany, Vietnam and Saudi Arabia. During his career he received numerous commendations for his excellent and superior service.
Bill will fondly be remembered for being a patriot who loved his country; for his years of selfless service in the United States Army; for being a loving husband, father, grandfather, and uncle; for his story telling abilities; the fact that he never met a stranger and for his big, generous heart. Though we know he is now at peace with the Lord, he will be deeply missed by many.
