Abbie Bernell Taber-Carpenter, age 89, passed away surrounded by her family on Saturday, April 7, 2012, at Weatherford Regional Medical Center in Weatherford.

Bernell was born in Tahona, Oklahoma on December 9, 1922 to Thomas and Laura Harbison. She attended school in Cameron, Oklahoma.  Bernell and Jack Taber were married October 31, 1942 in Yuma, Arizona.  He preceded her in death on April 16, 1984.  She married Gerald Ray Carpenter on Sept. 7, 1990 in Fort Worth, Texas. Bernell was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters, Elsie Agnew, Edna Horn, and Thelma Collins; brother, Millard Harbison, and 2 infant daughters, Edna Jean and Jackie Taber.She is survived by her husband, Gerald Ray Carpenter of the home; daughters, Laura Ann and husband Zeb Bowles of Konawa, Oklahoma, Linda and husband Wyman Griffin of Atoka, Tenn; grandchildren, Jack and Kim Bowles of Avery, Texas. Chris and Audra Bowles of Maud, Oklahoma, Abby and Adam Moreau of El Paso, Texas and Wyman Griffin III of Atoka, Tenn; nine great grandchildren, Courtney, Alisa, Vanessa, Isabelle Moreau of El Paso, Texas, Eva Griffin of Atoka, Tenn, Garde, Taylor Beth, and Kort Bowles of Avery, Texas and Shelby Bowles of Maud, Oklahoma; several nieces and nephews and one sister-in-law Patricia Taber Jewel.
Bernell was retired from the US Postal Service as a star route carrier and from a very successful Dog Grooming Business. She had a great love for animals and in lieu of flowers you might make a donation to Parker Paws in her name.
 

Memorial Service will be on Tuesday, April 10, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
