Albert Sidney Johnson, III passed away unexpectedly Thursday, July 27, 2023 after a short illness. Sid was born April 3, 1943 in Jackson, Mississippi, the son of CSM Albert S. Johnson, Jr. and Mary Williams Johnson. As an Army "brat", Sid lived many places growing up, graduating from Lawton (OK) High School in 1961. He fulfilled his patriotic duty by working for the DOD wearing an Air Force uniform. Returning to Jackson, Sid attended Millsaps College where he received a degree in English Literature. Later, classes at Emory University earned him a Master's in History. Sid was an ordained Methodist minister with a small charge of country churches in central Mississippi. Coming to Dallas about 1969, he was a talented traveling salesman for several companies. Sid also did Electrolux sales in Little Rock in the mid-70s and worked in the oilfield for Mitchell in Bridgeport before returning to Dallas about 1982. As a salesman for gift wrapping accessories, he met Carla at Dallas Market. Asking her out in 1985 led to the beginning of a 38-year relationship and Sid's moving to Weatherford. Always the traveler, the two of them enjoyed trips around the Southwest and even a trip to Acapulco that Sid won in a sales contest. After he and Carla married, he owned and operated College Park Pack and Mail from 1992 - 2014.
A political junkie, Sid immersed himself in local politics. He educated himself about every aspect of this city's operation, including minute details that escape many. He ran for City Council twice. While never winning a seat, no one can dispute his sincerity or passion for transparency in local government. In the last few years, Sid dealt with physical issues that limited the travel he loved. An interesting childhood, various jobs and settling down for the first and only time in Weatherford, Sid will be remembered and missed.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Hollingsworth; his son and wife, Albert Sidney Johnson IV and Amy Hoffmann of New Orleans; his daughter, Kimberly Kay Hendrix of Albuquerque; his grandchildren, Christopher James Eisaman and wife, Mearah Macasero of Albuquerque; Chyanne Renee Eisaman and fiance, Denver Martinez of Topeka; Alexander Sidney Johnson and Sharon Lindsey Johnson of New Orleans. Sid is also survived by two great-grandchildren, Andrew Christopher and Liliana Kay Eisaman; his brother, Barry Johnson and wife, Linda of Garland; and his mother-in-law, Roberta Jones Furman of Weatherford.
Visitation will be held at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel on Friday, August 4, 2023, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Sid's funeral service will be held Saturday, August 5, 2023, at 2:00 p.m.
