Alvin Eugene "Gene" Delap, 91, loving husband and father, passed away on Sunday, April 26, 2020, in Weatherford, Texas.

Gene was born on August 10, 1928, in Kansas City, Missouri, and in 1929 the family moved to Buffalo, Wyoming. He attended school in both Buffalo and later in Vancouver, Washington before moving back to Buffalo where he then worked as a ranch hand until enlisting in the Army in 1950, where he served as a Medic while stationed in South Korea and Japan during the Korean War.

After the War, Gene returned to Buffalo and in 1953, married Iris Mae Furhman and they moved to Thermopolis, Wyoming in 1955, where he started working in facilities at the Wyoming Pioneer Home, and they later divorced in 1975. Gene then married Ila June McDonald on August 10, 1977, and after 32 years at the Wyoming Pioneer Home, Gene retired in 1987. After retirement, he and June moved to Hemet, California in 1991, where they lived for 25 years before moving to Weatherford, Texas in 2016.

Gene was a member of the First Southern Baptist Church in Hemet, California, where he was active in the church choir. He had several passions throughout his life that included his horses, camping and hunting, but the thing that always kept him busy was his love of family and love of woodworking.

Gene was preceded in death by his father, James; mother Maggie,; brothers, James and Edwin, and sister, Ida. He is survived by his wife of 42 years, June; sister, Delores Short (Cherry Valley, CA); son, Jim Delap and wife, Sandra (Greeley, CO); son, Tim Delap and wife, Lori Hickman (Hemet, CA); son, Tony Delap and wife, Sandi (San Diego, CA); son, Daniel Delap and wife, Ronda (North Plains, OR); step daughter, Rita McLaughlin (Grovetown, GA); step daughter, Barb Welch (Thermopolis, WY); step son, Jon McDonald (Plano, TX); and step daughter, Kelly Woods and husband, Chad (Weatherford, TX); along with 16 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

Memorial services will be held at a later date once arrangements are finalized for interment at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, Texas.
