Anna Martha Katharina Hucke McGowen was born in a small village, not far from Rüsselsheim, Germany, on December 26th, 1928, only ten years after World War 1, yet only 11 before having to endure the horrors of World War 2.
After the war, she met a U.S. soldier, married him, and raised two children together. After his military obligations in Germany ended, they brought their young children, Aubrey and Jessie, to live in the U.S.A.
In 1969, they settled upon a few acres in Weatherford, Texas, where she lived a long and fulfilling life tending to her family and farm. In addition, she loved being a part of the community and making friends. For decades, she devoted her singing talents to senior citizens through area nursing homes, churches, and events. Without argument, her voice was the brightest among the "Sensational Senior Singers," with whom she frequently performed.
To know her was to love her. And, for the rest of our days, she will be sorely missed. Nobody could ever hope to have a better mother, grandmother, or friend. We are supremely blessed that she was ours, having her in our lives for as long as we did.
Anna was preceded in death by her husband, William McGowen, and her son, Aubrey McGowen. She is survived by her daughter, Jessie McGowen, and her grandchildren, Brad Edwards and Lacey Jarret-Pena. She was the top of five generations, including two great-granddaughters, Madison Thibodeau-Bagul and Audrey Martinez, and a great-great-granddaughter, Vivian Martinez.
If you wish to send any flowers, they should go to the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel at 913 N Elm St, Weatherford. Her funeral service will start at 10 am on Tuesday, February 22nd.
