Anne G. Black, age 83, died Tuesday, August 23, 2022 in Fort Worth. Anne was born November 20, 1938 in Waco, TX to Pete and Catherine Horne Grevelle. Reared in Waco, Anne attended the Waco schools, and Baylor University. She met and fell in love with her high school sweetheart, Jerry Black, who she was married to for 47 years. To this day, she still remained in contact with a special group of friends who all met in Kindergarten.
She was an Insurance Agency Owner for 26 years mainly writing for the Germania Companies. Before her insurance career, Anne received a Bachelor of Science Degree in Medical Technology from Midwestern State University, and worked many years in the Wichita General Hospital chemisty lab. She was a member of the Beta Beta Beta Biological Honor Society, and the American Society of Clinical Pathologists.
Once empty nesters, Anne and Jerry decided to live at Possum Kingdom Lake where they enjoyed the laid-back lake lifestyle, they also owned multiple businesses, were active participants in the community, and were members of St. Peter’s By the Lake Episcopal Church. After many years at the lake, an opportunity to purchase an insurance agency presented itself in Weatherford where they soon made their home, and remained there until the present.
Over Anne’s lifetime, she enjoyed many different activities, including teaching herself to play the guitar, cable knitting, needlepointing, furniture restoration, and organizing Saturday morning family tennis matches. Two of her passions were fishing and thoroughbred horse racing.
After sharing a lifetime filled with loving family, great friends, travel, family gatherings, and the joy of having grandchildren and great-grandchildren, she slipped peacefully into eternity with family at her side. All who met Anne with her ever present smile, and joy of life were touched by her presence, and better because of knowing and loving her.
Anne was preceded in death by her husband and love of her life, Jerry; her mother Catherine and beloved step-father, J.C. Bullion; and sister, Kaye G. Thomas.
Anne is survived by her children, Joe Black of Kansas City, MO, Jana Major and husband Sandy of Nocona, Jim Black and wife Grace of Round Rock; grandchildren, Amy Crawford and husband Patrick, Patrick Major and wife Rachel; great-grandchildren, Ryan, Will, Nolan, and Hannah.
