Archie William Brawner, 93, of Weatherford, Texas, went to be with his Heavenly Father on October 10, 2020. He was born July 22, 1927, in San Antonio, Texas and was raised in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of the Order of the Arrow. He served in the United States Merchant Marines for 2 ½ years as a Cook/Baker 2/C in the North Atlantic in WWII.

He retired in 1983 from Central Power and Light Co. in Corpus Christi, Texas after 42 years. He then graduated from Del Mar Community College in 1986 with a degree in restaurant management. He worked for John Newcomb’s Tennis Ranch in New Braunfels, Texas and then at IHop also in New Braunfels, Texas. He was a member of the Corpus Christi Downtown Lions Club for 36 years where he held several district offices in District 2-A3 in far south Texas. He was president of the Downtown Lions Club in 1976. He was a founding member of the St. John’s United Methodist Church in Corpus Christi. Archie was a Mason and served at the Masonic temple in Corpus Christi.

Archie was a loving father of 2 boys, Bobby and Donnie. He coached little league baseball for many years during his son’s youth. He was active with his company’s sponsored athletics. He was a coach of their city basketball team and he later became a referee. He was active in setting up company golf tournaments and loved to play also. Archie loved his country western music and has hundreds of CDs and old albums. He played the guitar very well and as a young man he played in several country western bands. He taught both of his boys how to play the guitar too.

Living in Corpus Christi he became an avid fisherman and spent a great amount of time with his friends fishing on the intercoastal waterway near Padre Island and deep-sea fishing in the Gulf of Mexico and occasionally dropped a line in Corpus Christi Bay.

As a Lion he traveled to many conventions across the country. He loved his time with the Lions and their community service helping blind children.

Archie was a man of God and studied the bible daily. He grew up a Methodist but later in life was baptized in a Baptist church. Archie was a truly honorable man.
