Avis Esther Thomas, 94, of Millsap, closed her eyes on this earth and opened them in Heaven on Wednesday, May 19, 2021, at her home.
Visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m., Wednesday evening, May 26, 2021, at the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Home, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford. Funeral services celebrating her life will be held at 2:00 p.m., on Thursday, May 27, 2021, at the First Baptist Church, in Millsap. Burial will be private at Fairview Cemetery.
Avis was born March 10, 1927, in Milburn, Kansas, to Roy and Myra Lewis. She married Owen Roland Thomas on September 13, 1946, and together had two children, Craig and Geraldine. Avis and her husband managed Thomas Grocery in Cool, Texas and she later worked at Campbell Memorial Hospital in Weatherford. Avis was noted for her treasured pin collection and for collecting rocks from her many travels. Avis was a long-time member of the First Baptist Church in Millsap and will be remembered for her strong Christian faith and for always “finding the good in everybody.” She “was always there for everybody” and was particularly active in the lives of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Avis is survived by her children, Craig and wife, Lee Thomas, and Geraldine Henderson; her grandchildren, Kelly and husband, Ryan Thomason, and Forrest and wife, Michiyo; by her great-grandchildren, Sydney, Shelby, Ely, and Sakura; and by her siblings, Vera Agee and Rex Lewis; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, Avis was preceded in death by her husband, Owen Thomas in 2006; and by her brothers, Omer, Vance, and Hal Lewis; and her sister, Bonnie Sharen.
