Barbara Ann (Wright) Linehan, 86, passed away on May 30, 2024 at Windsor Court Senior Living in Weatherford, Texas. Barbara was born on April 25, 1938, to Luther (Buddy) and Erlene (Gilley) Wright. She grew up in Watauga, Texas, where her family lived next door to the cousins of the love of her life, Albert Linehan. As a teenager, Barbara accepted Jesus Christ as her savior, and she was baptized in Fossil Creek, near Watauga.
She and Albert married on December 4, 1954, celebrating 69 years of marriage last year. Barbara loved sharing the memories of their experiences while Albert served in the Army at Fort Polk, Louisiana, where their daughter, Carol was born.
The family moved to Haltom City, Texas upon Albert’s completion of military service. There, two children, David and Elissa were born to them. They were active members and servants of Ridgecrest Baptist Church, where Barbara worked as church secretary for a time.
She and Albert moved to the “farm” north of Weatherford in 1972, where Barbara was the best help-meet and ranch hand for Albert, tending cattle, raising a garden, building fences, cutting firewood, driving a truck for hay hauling, and many other jobs Albert could persuade her to help him with. They often hosted family gatherings, with Thanksgiving dinners that are still special to many family members. Barbara was well-known for her cooking and sweet iced tea. She liked to keep a clean house and sang or hummed hymns while she was cleaning.
Barbara and Albert traveled to many places including all 50 states, the Panama Canal, Ireland, the Holy Lands, and jeeping in Colorado. They especially enjoyed their monthly get-together with their friends called “The Group”. Barbara was a long-time member of Friendship Baptist Church. She enjoyed singing alto in the choir and working in the food bank. She played softball on the church team and was a quite good left-handed slugger.
Barbara worked at various jobs, and she often recalled her time working at Texas Instruments and CAC in Keller. She later got her Real Estate license and worked as office manager for the Bryant’s Company Real Estate for over 25 years.
Barbara enjoyed attending her grandchildren’s activities, and she was always sure that her family members had a special homemade birthday cake. She liked playing cards and working puzzles, and she especially enjoyed a good Bingo game. Barbara was very fond of her dogs, Gabe, Leah, and Sam.
She was preceded in death by her parents, and her daughter, Carol Patak. She is survived by her husband, Albert Linehan; son, David Linehan and wife, Barbara; daughter, Elissa Braswell and husband, Van; brother, Charles Wright and wife, Bobbie; brother, William (Bill) Wright and wife, Terry; grandchildren: Jayson Hodges, Jared Hodges and wife, Kelsi, and Emma Linehan. She is also survived by two great-grandsons, Luke Hodges and Eli Hodges, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
The family would like to express a special thanks to Amy Wilson and Kelsey Brame of Three Oaks Hospice, as well as the many special staff members of Windsor Court Senior Living.
