B.E. “Gene” Jordan, age 86, loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend to many, died August 2, 2016 at his home. Funeral: 10 a.m, Friday, August 5, 2016 at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with interment to follow in Tin Top Cemetery. Visitation: 6-8 p.m, Thursday at the funeral home. Gene was born November 23, 1929 in Weatherford, Texas to Henry Eugene Jordan and Lovie Myers who preceded him in death. Gene served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean Conflict. Most of his life he owned and operated a number of convenient stores and service stations. He retired after 35 years as a Distributor Jobber for Mobil Oil Corporation in 1993.
Gene was a member of Central Christian Church in Weatherford. He was also a 32nd Degree Mason acquiring his 50 year service pin through Masonic Lodge 254. He was a member of the Moslah Temple and Charter member of Fort Worth Scottish Rite. He was also a member of the Knights of Pythias Lone Star Lodge #4.
He served as Chairman of the Weatherford Water and Electric Board and was instrumental in acquiring Water Rights from Lake Benbrook by working through the Core of Engineers and former Speaker of the House, Jim Wright.
He served as a former President of the Weatherford High School Booster Club and coached Little League Baseball. He was a former member of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce and the Weatherford Optimist Club and was an active member of Texas Oil Marketers Association. He also loved being a member of the Weatherford College Booster Club.
Gene is survived by his wife Mary Jo Powell Jordan of Weatherford, one son Gary and his wife Sharon of Weatherford, one daughter Deborah Tarver of San Angelo and her husband Dave, two granddaughters, Jayme Toolsie and her husband Kevin and Courtney Rogers and her husband Kyle, and one great grandson Jordan Rogers. He is also survived by one sister Dorothy Clydine Barbee and many nieces and nephews.
