Betty L. Hammons, 91, departed from this life on Sunday, March 12, 2023. Betty was born May 13, 1931, in Anson, Texas to John Bynum Nowell, Sr. and Bessie (Chamberlain) Nowell. She married the love of her life, Calvin Hammons, and together they raised two children, Andrea and Rex. Betty delighted in her family, and especially enjoyed being a grandparent. Prior to retirement, she worked as a teacher's aide for the Fort Worth ISD. Betty was a member of South Main Church of Christ in Weatherford; her soft and gentle spirit will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Betty was preceded in death by her parents, John, Sr. and Bessie Nowell; grandson, Mac Allen Hammons; and brothers, John Nowell, Jr. and Don Nowell.
Betty is survived by her beloved husband of 72 years, Calvin Hammons of Weatherford, Texas; daughter, Andrea Cooke (John) of Allen, Texas; son, Rex Hammons (Joan) of Weatherford, Texas; grandchildren, Morgan Godby (Jordan) and Adam Cooke; great-grandchildren, Mac and Hank; siblings, Loretta Carroll, Charles Nowell, and Johnny Nowell; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Thursday, March 16, 2023, at South Main Church of Christ, Weatherford, Texas; the pallbearers will be Adam Cooke, Jordan Godby, Johnny Nowell, Aaron McCauley, Cliff McCauley, Ken Hammons, and honorary pallbearer, Charles Nowell. Burial will follow at 2:30 p.m., at Tyson Cemetery, in Denton County.
A time of visitation is scheduled for 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086.
