Bettye Joe Kennedy Beard, passed from this life on Saturday, May 6, 2023, at the age of 77. Bettye is survived by her husband Mike Beard; son David Chilcutt and his wife Laura; daughter Angie Williams and her husband Jason; stepson Bradley Kyle Farris, stepdaughter Valerie Bearden; several grandchildren: Mallory Farris Mastellar, Allison Farris McCaslin, Thomas Kyle Farris, Kaitlin Cochran, Brooke Chilcutt Diaz, Dylan Chilcutt, Katelyn Williams, and Braden Williams; and 3 great grandchildren Elliot Farris-Gonzalez, Kash and Brayleigh Diaz; and many life-long friends. Bettye was preceded in death by her parents John and Ella Clark Kennedy and husband Thomas E. “Buddy” Farris.

Bettye’s family moved to Weatherford when she was in the 5th grade where she made several lasting friendships. She was active in several organizations including the sorority Beta Sigma Pi. Bettye was determined to finish college and graduated from TCU in 1985 while working full time and attending classes at night.

Bettye served 27 years in various roles for the City of Weatherford. She worked many years in human resources and retired as City Secretary. She was a former board member of the Weatherford Housing Authority, and a faithful member of All Saints Anglican Church where she served in the vestry. Bettye was one of only 2 women who served terms as Senior Warden, and she sang in the choir.

Bettye enjoyed the outdoors. She treasured the time spent with Buddy gardening and remodeling their home and various rent houses. She believed that digging in the dirt was therapy for the soul. She was an avid photographer and enjoyed taking pictures of her family and nature. Bettye was a world traveler and could always give the best advice on the greatest places to visit. Mike and Bettye loved to take cruises together traveling the world.

Funeral service celebrating Bettye's life will be held at 10 am, Tuesday, May 9, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, with interment to follow at Greenwood Memorial Park in Fort Worth. A visitation will be held from 6-8 pm, Monday, at All Saints Anglican Church at 121 S. Waco St. in Weatherford. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to All Saints Anglican Church Vestry or the Center of Hope in Bettye’s name.
