It is with great sadness that the family of Billie Wandalene "Wanda" Billman Phillips, 89, of Aledo, Texas, announces her peaceful passing at home with family, on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
Wanda was born on October 29, 1934, in Weatherford, Texas, and was the eldest of eight siblings. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother. She devoted her life to caring for her special needs son, along with raising her three other children and granddaughter. She worked tirelessly for years as a volunteer for the Special Olympics and at events for the ARC of Fort Worth.
She loved mystery novels, British TV, crossword puzzles, antique dishes, and her pets. Any animal seeking refuge could find a home with her. She was full of love and stubbornness, and had a delightfully mischievous sense of humor.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Samuel Phillips, and her son, John Douglas Phillips. She is survived by her children, Lea Ann Mateo, Danny Phillips, Donald Phillips; and her granddaughter, Jennifer Dishman; along with countless other family members and dear friends.
Her funeral will be held at Galbreaith Pickard Hilltop Chapel, in Willow Park, Texas, on July 5, at 2:00 p.m. Wanda wanted a celebration of her life, not a dreary, teary funeral, so we welcome any funny or amusing stories anyone would like to share about her at the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations made in her honor to the Humane Society of North Texas www.hsnt.org.
