We are sad to announce the passing of Bobby Earl Back on the evening of Friday, April 14 at his home in Weatherford, Texas surrounded by his family.
Bobby was born on July 10, 1936 in Wortham, Texas. He was the eldest child of Walter Earl Back and Audrey Gunn Allen and grew up in the Corsicana area. In his wild youth he lived in Fort Worth for a time and then seeking discipline, joined the United States Marine Corps and was stationed near Korea. Upon his return stateside he met and married Gloria Treat, graduated barber school, and then settled in Weatherford, Texas to raise a family and pursue his career as a hairstylist. Most people know Bobby from his profession, a constant was being at his chair, ready to give his customers what they needed to look and feel their best. It was a difficult decision for him to leave his barber shop in December of 2019 and to retire completely in September of last year. He was a beloved fixture of “small town barber lore”, cutting hair for the Weatherford community from 1962 to 2022.
Over the years Bobby had many hobbies and interests, but his love of fast cars, enthusiasm for guns and sport shooting, and his adoration of felines, were his mainstays. His latest cat, Kiddo, being the best and most devoted pet he’d ever had. Kiddo will definitely miss his Daddy.
Outside of some bosom buddies, Arlin Thompson, Clayton Poole and Lenora Smethers, Bobby had so many wonderful friends and clients. He gained these friendships and fond memories throughout his career, which he cherished until the very end. We will all miss his mischievous sense of humor and that twinkle in his eye.
Bobby is survived by his daughters Tanna Darrell and partner, David, of Weatherford, Sharon Amaral Back and wife, Alyssa, of Tyler; grandchildren Whitney Bishop and husband, Francesco, of Philadelphia, John Roberson and wife, Crisi, of Tyler, Gabriel Roberson and partner, Elizabeth, of Dallas, Joshua Back, Will Monkhern, and Christian Bowling of Tyler; great-grandchildren Madilyn, Caleb, Annabeth and Evan Roberson, of Tyler; siblings Joanne Swenson, Charles Back and Linda Back; and many nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his first wife, Gloria Jean Dopson neé Treat, the mother of his daughters, and Mary Aguilar Back, his second wife and perfect match; his parents Walter Back and wife, Lorraine Morgan, and mother Audrey Allen; siblings Patsy and Larry Back; friend Buddy Johnson.
Lastly, Bobby is survived by the Corsicana fruit cake he religiously bought every Christmas— it will no doubt outlast us all.
