Bobby Gene David Long

Bobby Gene David Long, age 92, of Weatherford, passed away August 19, 2023.

Bobby was born in Big Springs, Texas on December 12, 1930, and was raised in Arkansas before moving to Weatherford. There, he worked for the City of Weatherford Electric Department for 15 years before starting his own soda pop distribution company, which he operated for 25 years. Never one to retire, Bobby then worked for Brock ISD for another 18 years.

Bobby married Bessie McKeown in 1953, before serving in the U.S. Army, stationed at Fort Hood. They soon moved back to Weatherford where they raised their two children Robert and Joy, and were surrounded by their loving extended family. In August 1971, Bobby and Bessie bought and renovated their dream house where they planted a vegetable and flower garden and spent 47 happy years.

Bobby was baptized in 1955 in Belton, Texas. He and Bessie were members at North Side Baptist Church from 1955 to 1987, then members at Hilltop Baptist Church where Bobby served as a deacon for 28 years.

Bobby is reunited in heaven with his wife of 62 years, Bessie McKeown Long; his parents, Elijah and Maudie Long; his siblings, R.V., Leonard, Joy Lytle, Odell, and Noel. Celebrating his life are his son, Robert Long; his daughter, Joy Gunter and son-in-law, Ron Gunter; granddaughter, Melody Procter and her husband Doug Procter; great granddaughter, Adelyn Joy Procter; granddaughter, Katie Gunter and her partner, Matt Scifres; along with a devoted extended family. He brought joy and laughter to many friends and family and will be dearly missed.

A family visitation will be held at 9:00 a.m., preceding the memorial service at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 23, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 North Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas 76086, officiated by nephew, Tim McKeown. Graveside service to follow.
