Our dear mother Carolyn Herlong Bolinger, age 74, of Weatherford and San Antonio, TX went to be with her Lord on November 23, 2018. Carolyn was a brilliant teacher, gifted creator, beloved wife, and mother. Born in 1944 in Delhi, LA to Kathryn Herlong and John W. Herlong, Carolyn grew up in a lively family of 3 other siblings. She attended Edison High School where she was a member of the Honey Bear Pep Squad, Future homemakers of America and the student Council. She attended San Antonio College & Durham’s Business College and later graduated with a Bachelor’s of Education from Tarleton State University of which she was especially proud.
For twenty years she taught Pre-K and elementary grades in the Poolville Elementary School, she loved Pre-K the best. She was awarded the PJ Harvey Fellow Award for Exemplary Teaching in 2005 and Teacher of the year.
She adored her family. Marrying the love of her life William Gary Bolinger on January 8th at Covenant Presbyterian Church in 1966, they raised their daughters, Kathryn Ann & Carole Diane, with a sense of humor, a belief in honest communication with love of others & family. William Gary passed in 2017. Kathryn is now an Artist in Houston, Texas with her husband Daniel Un and Diane is a Teacher at Weatherford High School. Jack French is the sole grandchild and was the love of his Grandmother & Grandfather. We hold Carolyn in gratitude and the light of God’s love. She will be sorely missed.
Her surviving siblings are Effie Stevens of Houston, TX, Jesse Herlong of San Antonio & John W. Herlong Jr. of Louisiana, numerous cousins, nephews, nieces and other family and students. Special thanks to the family of Holland Lake Nursing Home for their love & care of Carolyn in the past year and a half.
