Carolyn Ruth Patton

September 29, 1943 — December 15, 2024

Carolyn Ruth (Hurt) Patton, born September 29, 1943, in Abilene, Texas, passed away peacefully December 15, 2024, at Lexington Medical Lodge in Farmersville, Texas.

She was preceded in death by parents, Albert and Amelia (Lowrie) Hurt; her beloved husband, Norman; brother, Ferrell Hurt (killed in WWII); and sisters, Frances Northrup, Annabelle Franks, and other in-laws.

Carolyn grew up attending Shep Methodist Church in Shep, Texas, where she played piano during services from a young age. It was there she met Norman, a young student pastor, and they married on June 22, 1962, embarking on a 61-year journey in life and ministry.

Together, they had four children: Melissa (Tommy) Nugent, Kerry (Laura) Patton, Michelle (Dr. David) Williams, and Jeff (Dr. Denise) Patton, all of whom survive her.

She leaves behind her grandchildren: Emily Patton, Dr. Lauren (Dr. Kyle) Nugent Sanders, Elizabeth (Brittin) Nugent Kimmel, Jordan Patton, Landon (Melanie) Williams, Zachary (Rafaela) Patton, Alyssa (Justin) Nugent Conrad, Avery Williams, Ben Patton, Reagan (Ben) Williams Pulliam, Mika Williams, and Sydney Patton. In addition to her brother, Norman Hurt, and sister-in-law, Dorthy Patton Miller, Carolyn is also survived by a great-grandson, Emmitt Sanders, great-granddaughters, Imogene Williams and Amelia Conrad, and another great-granddaughter on the way.

Known for her deep faith, Carolyn was a prayer warrior, loving wife, mother, teacher, and mentor. She joyfully encouraged others, always answering, “I’m just MAA-VELOUS!” when asked how she was doing.

Carolyn graduated from Blackwell High School in 1962 and earned a BA in Education and Special Education from Texas Tech University. She taught in the Crowell, Olton, Anson, Perryton, and Sweetwater school districts.

Carolyn was a faithful member and servant in every church Norman pastored, and after his retirement in 2004, they made Clyde Methodist Church their home.

A celebration of Carolyn’s life will take place on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at 10:30 a.m., at Clyde Methodist Church, in Clyde, Texas.
