Chaplain (Colonel) H. Donald Thompson

Harold Donald Thompson, beloved and cherished by his family and friends, completed his life's work on February 12, 2017. He is now home and fully healed with Jesus. He lived a faithful servant's life and was the rock of his family, overseeing his family with love, wisdom, humor, and joy. He lived a full life and left a rich legacy of character, servanthood, and a zest to live and learn daily. He will be greatly missed by those who loved him.

Donald was born in Weatherford, Texas on March 29, 1930 to Clarence and Loree Thompson. He married the love of his life, Lois Mae Moore, on July 18, 1946. They celebrated their 70th Wedding anniversary this past July. Donald leaves behind three children and their families. Steve Thompson and his children, Mike, Tracy and Philip.

Tim Thompson (Terri) and their children Ashley Hogan (Jeffery) and Melissa Rhine (Clayton). Patty Thompson and her children, Emily, Autumn, Nathan, and Daniel.

Donald and Lois have three precious great grandchildren, Baeleigh Hogan, Hynlee Rhine, and Caleb Rhine.

Donald graduated with a Bachelor's of Agricultural Engineering from Texas Tech University, a Master's in Divinity from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and a Master's in Religious Education from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary.

Donald's pastorates include Harmony Baptist in Weatherford, Texas, and Greybull Baptist in Greybull, Wyoming. He served as a Chaplain in the U.S. Army for twenty- seven years and retired with the rank of Chaplain Colonel. He served one tour of combat in Viet Nam. He served two tours in Germany. Some of Donald's decorations and medals include; Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal with First Oak Leaf Cluster, Army Commendation Medal with one Oak Leaf Cluster, National Defense Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one Silver Service Star, Armed Forces Reserve Medal with two Hourglasses (10yr and 20yr), Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm Leaf, Vietnam Civil Action Unit Citation and the Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation.

He was a middle school science teacher at Springtown, ISD. He pastored Hilltop Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas for twenty-two years, and was the Senior Adult Minister at North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Texas for twelve years before fully retiring.

Donald was predeceased by his parents, Clarence Thompson and Loree Thompson Butler, two sisters (Dorothy Noe and Jane Carter), and his infant son David Andrew Thompson. He leaves behind two brothers, Wayne Thompson (Nell) and Leslie Thompson (Latricia), and one sister, Kathy Densmore (Glenn).

He loved fishing with his family at Port Aransas, playing the board game AGGRAVATION (and winning most of the time) with his family, camping, and traveling through Europe and the USA. He enjoyed planning and taking the senior adults on sightseeing tours.

His greatest love was for his family. He has been, and will continue to be, our inspiration to live life fully and with a sense of humor. We have been richly blessed by having Donald as the head of our family and look forward to our reunion with him one day in Heaven.
