Chuck was born January 18, 1954, in Jacksonville, North Carolina, to Charles Vincent and Nira Joy Bailey. He married Ramona Maples on April 13, 1979, stating “I married considerably up.” Together they had two daughters, Kendall and Kelsey.
A devout Christian, Chuck served as a Deacon and later as an Elder at the Sunset Ridge Church of Christ in Brady, Texas, for many years. Chuck had been a teacher and a basketball coach for more than 35 years. He coached multiple successful basketball teams in different towns in Texas, and in 1989 led the Grapeland girls’ basketball team to a state championship.
Despite his mobile limitations, Chuck was able to continue his passion for history by teaching and mentoring students. He enjoyed traveling, camping, fishing, and ‘garage saling.’ One of his most proud moments was winning the 1st place prize for his Christmas light displays! Ever devoted to his daughters, Chuck never missed attending one of their sporting events. Additionally, Chuck will be affectionately remembered for being a “Pa Pa” to his grandchildren.
Chuck is survived by his wife, Ramona; his daughters, Kendall and husband, Justin Harrison, and Kelsey and husband, Kallen Collier; his grandchildren, Ryder, Reece, Kylee, and Klaire; his mother, Nira Joy ‘Bailey’ McCullough; and by his sister, Lynnette Bailey.
Chuck was preceded in death by his father, Charles Vincent Bailey.
“I am very proud to be known as a son, brother, husband, teacher, coach, father, grandfather, Christian, Elder, a forgiven sinner, a Saint!”
