Charles D. (Smitty) Smith

Mr. Charles David “Smitty” Smith, age 75, passed away on Thursday, February 21, 2013 in Weatherford.
He was born December 20, 1937 to Merlin Morris and Emma Dixon Smith in Kilgore, Texas.  Charles was a longtime resident of Parker County, Texas.  He served as a reserve Deputy for the Parker Sheriff Department.  He was instrumental in getting the first paid county fire department in the state and served as Fire Marshall and Fire Chief of Parker County.  Charles owned and operated Smitty’s Equipment and Rental for many years.
 
He is preceded in death by his parents, Merlin and Emma Smith; brother, Robert Morris Smith.
 
Survivors include his wife, Bess Smith of Weatherford; sons, Virgil Summers and wife, Maureen of Poolville, Charles W. Smith and wife, Gail of Weatherford and Stoney Smith and wife, Pamela of Toulouse, France; seven grandchildren  and six great-grandchildren; sister, Merle Phillips and husband, Dr. Carroll of Houston; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
 
Funeral Service will be held on Friday, February 22, 2013 at 7:00 p.m. at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel with Pastor Jeff Griffin officiating.  Visitation will be from 6-7 p.m. on Friday, February 22, 2013 at the Funeral home.
