Charles Ray Nesmith

March 7, 1944 — December 24, 2018

Charles Ray Nesmith, 74, of Willow Park, went home to be with his Lord and Savior on
December 24, 2018.
Memorial services will be held at 9:30 a.m., Saturday, December 29th at Galbreaith-Pickard
Funeral Chapel in Weatherford, Texas. A graveside service will immediately follow at East
Greenwood Cemetery, also in Weatherford.
Charles was born March 7, 1944 in Montgomery, Alabama to Gordon Carlton and Myrtle
Crouch Nesmith while his father served in the U.S. Army. After the war, the family returned to
their home in Potosi, Texas. Charles grew up helping his father on the family’s dairy farms near
Crowley and Lubbock, Texas.
He graduated from Monterey High School and Texas Tech University in Lubbock, then married
his high school sweetheart, Cheryl Kerr, in 1966. He accepted a commission in the U.S. Army in
1968.
Charles worked for the U.S. Department of Transportation/Federal Motor Carrier Safety
Administration for 30 years in both Austin and Ft. Worth, Texas.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Willow Park for over 15 years, and more
recently, a member of Northside Baptist Church in Weatherford.
Charles enjoyed hunting, bird dogs, and spending time with his family, especially the
grandchildren.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Gordon and Myrtle Nesmith, and his brother,
Robert Nesmith.
He is survived by his wife Cheryl, of 52 years, his daughter Mindy Pulliam and son-in-law
Jeremy Pulliam of Brock, Texas, and their sons Jack and Alexander as well as his son James
Nesmith, daughter-in-law Carrie Nesmith of Lubbock, Texas, and their children Abbey, Daniel,
and Cooper.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests contributions be made to Samaritan’s Purse or Cook
Children’s Hospital in Ft. Worth.
