Charlie is survived by his brother, Mark Schaul (Ellie Schaul) of Charleston, West Virginia; son, Mike Schaul (Anita) Franklin, North Carolina; son, Charlie Schaul, Jr. (Cheryl) Sandy, Utah; and daughter, Amy O’Connor (Paul) Perrin, Texas; six grandchildren, Katie, Chelsea, Emily, Michael, Sam, and Leo; and three great grandchildren, Audrey, Tessa, and Morgan.

Charlie was born and raised in Charleston, West Virginia. He was a graduate of Carnegie Mellon Institute with a Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering. He served in the US Army Corp of Engineers in Korea and was Honorably Discharged with the rank of Captain. After his military service, he worked for Reynolds Aluminum, and in 1967 was transferred to Paradise Valley, Arizona with his wife and children. He left Reynolds and went on to become an independent business owner and business consultant for many years.

His passions were coffee brewing, fly fishing (and fibbing about the size of the fish!) and snow skiing with his son, Charlie Jr., camping, tennis, and many other outdoor activities with all of us at times. In his later years you could find him working for REI and then Neptune Mountaineering. He moved to Boulder, Colorado in 2003, then moved to Texas in 2018 to be closer to his daughter and her family.

One of his favorite stories was about his oldest son, whom he met when his boy was 3 years old from his wife’s previous marriage. At the time, dad had a convertible car and Michael was very skeptical about that whole deal! His famous quote spoken to dad from son, was “Where’s da woof, Chawlie!” Lol! Dad brought that up frequently, he loved that little boy and was just tickled with that comment for years and years.

Dad was a very kind man, everyone whom he met liked him. He was a favorite everywhere he went:-). We will miss his silly stories and jokester attitude; his smile and laugh were always present for those who had the privilege of knowing our dad.

The family will be honoring Charlie at a memorial service held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 5, 2024, at Grace Baptist Church, 171 County Road 4797, Boyd, Texas 76023.

The funeral chapel is not involved in the service.
