Chester “Chet” Burdette, age 74, of Aledo, passed away in the early morning hours of August 15, 2020 at a Fort Worth hospital. He was born on April 30, 1946 in Fayetteville, Georgia to Willie and Margaret Burdette.
Chet served in the United States Air Force from 1964 to 1968, serving in the Vietnam War. He was a lover of life, a cartoonist, a comedian, an entrepreneur, and a patriot. He loved making people laugh, he loved fishing, and he loved antiquing with Vicki, a hobby that had become his second trade after retirement from Lockheed Martin, where he worked as an inspector for 34 years. He loved sports of all kinds. He particularly loved Aledo football, and any and all sports played by his children and grandchildren for numerous schools and colleges in North Texas.
Chet was many things to many people. He was a son, brother, cousin, uncle, husband, father, Granddaddy, friend, soldier, and faithful follower of Christ. Of all these roles, it is perhaps this final one that was most important to him. A lifelong Baptist, he served in many capacities over the years in various churches, including Deacon, teacher, and prayer warrior. Of all the things he will be remembered for, at the top of the list will be as someone who was wholly unapologetic for his faith. Though our loss now is great, we have peace that he is now rejoicing with his Lord having been welcomed into the Kingdom as a good and faithful servant.
Chet is survived by his wife of 54 years, Vicki Martin Burdette; son, Stacy Burdette (Kelly) of Sunset, Texas; daughters, Kimberly Pearson (Georgie) of White Settlement, Robin Johnson (David) of Azle, Christi Palmer (Brad) of Azle; 20 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren; siblings, Marguerite McCurry of Gainesville, Georgia, Helen Goodman (Wendall) of Woolsey, Georgia, Julia Bachelor (Robert) of Blairsville, Georgia, Marilyn Pullen of Newman, Georgia; numerous nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester Willie and Margaret Burdette; sister, Margie Taylor; and brother, Steve Burdette. Funeral Services will be held at Victory Baptist Church in Weatherford on Saturday, August 29, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers the family request donations be made to The Wounded Warrior Project.
