Cleo Rucker McQueen passed away March 17, 2009, at the age of 86 years. She was born May 25, 1922, in Weatherford, Texas to Mitchell Rucker and Cleon Ikard Rucker. Cleo was the great-granddaughter of Bose Ikard. Bose Rode the Goodnight-Loving Trail with Charles Goodnight and Oliver Loving for five years before settling in Weatherford, Texas.
She committed her life to Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Prince Memorial C.M.E. Church: having served in various positions at the church, including the Missionary Society, Church Secretary and Treasurer. She was a graduate of I. M. Terrell High School in the city of Fort Worth, Texas; the class of 1939. She worked for Ann’s Flower Shop operated by Carl and Ann Stewart. There she acquired the love for flowers. She also worked for Fannie Price Jewelry where she became knowledgeable as to all the aspects of jewelry. She began working for Dr. & Mrs. Jack Eidson Sr. in 1960. She performed numerous duties for the household.
“Dewey” as she was affectionately called by her nephews, cousins, family and friends was always the perfect hostess. She loved to cook and entertain in her home. Her home was always the gathering place for many events.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Mitchell and Cleon Rucker; her son, Welton R. Woodfork, Jr.; step-son, James McQueen; and sisters, Mary Mitchette George and Florine Roddy.
She leaves to cherish her memories: son, Harry Earl McQueen and daughter-in-law, Cheryl Rucker McQueen of Los Angeles, California; sister, Edna Jane Hopkins of Los Angeles, California; brother in law, Fritizer Hopkins; four step grandsons; eight step great-grandchildren; and numerous other relatives and dear friends.
Open visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, Weatherford, Texas.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 23, 2009 at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel.
