Coy Paul Carter

Coy Paul Carter, 93, of Brock, Texas passed away on Tuesday, April 25, 2023. Coy was born May 16, 1929, in Parker County to Acey Lofton Carter and Bertha Christine Berry Carter and grew up in the Spring Creek area. On June 23, 1950, Coy married the love of his life and his best friend Bobbie Jean Parker and a true love story began. Together over the next 53 years they raised a family and watched it grow, owned a few businesses, weathered some very serious health issues and remained steadfast in the Lord and their marriage until Bobbie Jean’s sudden death in 2007. In the early years when the kids were little Coy enjoyed playing baseball with the sandlot crew, of course he was a pitcher and he always had his favorite catcher Dub Riddle to catch for him. Later Coy was asked to play with the Fort Worth Cats and even went and played one weekend but came home and said it was fun but it didn’t pay enough to take care of his family. Coy served Parker County for 20 years, 12 years as Parker County Sheriff, 4 years as Constable and 4 as County Commissioner. He was a hard-working family man with a contagious laugh, a smile as big as Texas and always a good old practical joke in his back pocket waiting for his next opportunity. He was always willing to help others, a friend to all, and he never met a stranger.

Coy was a long-time member of the South Main Church of Christ, a member of the Texas Cattle Raisers Association, he served for many years as the President of the Tin Top Cemetery Association and he was a proud member of the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse for the past 64 years where he served as Corral Boss, Lieutenant and Captain. In his retirement his favorite past time was teaching his passion and love for raising cattle to his twin great-grandsons, Roy Rogers and Gene Autry aka Brayden and Blayne.

Coy is survived by daughter, Paula Roberson; two daughters-in-law, Karen Carter and Maxine Carter; grandchildren, Jimmy Gilbert, Tonya Sparks, Sabrina Carter, Kandi Thompson, Scott Carter; numerous great grandchildren; and nieces and nephews; two sisters, Bertha Joe Potts of Bastrop, TX, and Rosie Mimms of Cleburne, TX; and one sister-in-law, Allene Carter; and special friend, Susan Byrd.

Coy was preceded in death by his parents, Acey and Bertha Carter; two brothers, Thurman Carter and Fred Carter; one sister, Lou Shrider; his beloved wife, Bobbie Jean Carter; two sons, Acey Carter and David Carter; and one grandson, Brent Gilbert.

A visitation will be held from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, April 27, 2023, at the Parker County Sheriff’s Posse Club House. A Celebration of Life will begin at 10:00 am on Friday, April 28, 2023, at South Main Church of Christ, with a graveside service at the Tin Top Cemetery.
