C.R. Bridges passed away Friday, March 8, 2019 at his home in Weatherford, TX
C.R. Bridges, Clois Renny was born March 19, 1932 in Elgin, OK to Buster and Katie (McCafferty) Bridges. C.R. attended schools in Fletcher before joining the army in 1949 and serving through 1952 during the Korean War.
C.R. began riding horses at a very early age and started calf roping at the age of 12. He competed in various rodeo events throughout his life. He was a member of the IRA (International Rodeo Assoc.), PRCA (Professional Rodeo Cowboys Assoc.), SWTPA (Southwest Team Penning Assoc.) and Rodeo Cowboy Alumni. He was selected 2018 Cowboy Legacy Honoree. C.R. continued to team rope into his early 80’s.
C.R. made his livelihood by training, selling and buying registered and grade horses for roping, cattle work and pleasure. He shipped many horses from the west to the east coast for potential buyers. He demonstrated his instinctive riding ability while training, roping or exhibiting saddle horses at sales. He always enjoyed riding a “good broke horse”.
He was a caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and a good friend to many. He will be missed greatly.
Visitation will be Wednesday, March 13, 2019 at 12:00pm funeral service will be following at 1:00pm at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel 913 N. Elm Street, Weatherford, Texas. Burial will follow at Holly Hills Cemetery in Granbury, Texas.
C.R. desired cowboy hats be worn to his gathering and service.
He is survived by his wife, Sally, 3 sons and 1 daughter: John Bridges of Mingus, TX and daughter-in-law Rachel Bridges of Weatherford, TX, Beau Bridges and wife Sarita of Weatherford, TX, Buster Bridges and wife Hillary of Watauga, TX and Eileen Emrich and husband Robert of Palm Coast, FL.,10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Buster and Katie Bridges; his first wife, Peggy, 7 brothers; Billy, Herschel, Hilden, Charles, Edwin, Donald Ray and Clifton Bridges; 4 sisters: Lucille Cable, Hazel Love, Ruby Mcbee and Lois Schumann.
