Cynthia Sue Smith

January 3, 1949 — March 31, 2023

Cynthia Sue Smith was born on January 3, 1949, in Houston, Texas, to Hugh Wayne Murphy, Sr. and Betty Jo Murphy. She met Danny Ray Smith in the summer of 1968, and they were married in 1969. In her younger years, she was a secretary for a legal firm and later on for Danny’s business. While secretary for Danny, she simultaneously raised her four children, including homeschooling the three youngest. She had a real talent of changing her voice from disciplining her kids to pleasantly answering a business call. Cindy was an active member of Harmony Baptist Church and devoted time to Bethel Harmony Extension Education Club. She had a love for God that she instilled in her family through gentle reminders of scripture throughout their lives, most notably, “Do all things unto the Lord,” her paraphrasing of Colossians 3:17- something she not only preached but very much practiced. She led her children by example and supported her husband. It was evident she embodied Proverbs 31 by how she loved her family. While being a mother to her four children was her greatest passion and joy, her seven grandchildren made her life that much sweeter. On Friday, March 31, 2023, at age 74, with 54 years of marriage and 48 years of motherhood, and just days after meeting her newest grandbaby, Cynthia went to her heavenly home, finally able to relax after a very fulfilled life.

Cynthia is survived by her husband, Danny Smith of Weatherford, Texas; son, Greg Smith and his wife, Kristi Smith; son, Derek Smith and his wife, Jintana Smith; daughter, Allison Kennedy and her husband, Joseph Kennedy; daughter, Rachel Brady and her husband, Ryan Brady; grandchildren, Daniel Smith, Eli Smith, Jirawadee Smith, Dechaton Smith, Charlotte Kennedy, Rhett Brady, and Reese Brady; brother, Hugh Wayne Murphy, Jr. and his wife, Beth Murphy; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.
