Dale Turner Dillahunty, 85, beloved husband, father, and pawpaw, passed away Monday, November 9, 2020. Dale, a long time resident of Weatherford, Texas, was born in Granite, Oklahoma, on September 19, 1935, to Woodrow and Fern Dillahunty.
Many years later, Dale married the love of his life, Ruth Smith on April 8th, 1961, proceeding to share 59 years of their lives together. Prior to his marriage, Dale had joined the Air Force in February of 1955 and had served valiantly as a tail gunner for B-52 bombers, proudly continuing his service into the year 1976, when he retired. Overall, he participated in over 175 combat missions over Northern and Southern Vietnam, trained upcoming gunners, and was also awarded the distinguished flying cross and air medal for his exemplary performance during his military career.
However, Dale’s work had not quite come to an end, as he quickly delved into the world of long haul truck driving, dedicating 19 years of his life to trucking while simultaneously running his own long hauling operation. Because of Dale’s career choices, he was away from home on a regular basis, which is why he had always made the point to spend as much time with his family as he possibly could. His family was the center of his life, and regardless of whether he realized it or not, he had always been one to bring his family together. Additionally, as an extended leg of his family, Dale faithfully attended South Main Church of Christ for 46 years. All in all, he enjoyed making his loved ones laugh, which proved easy with a smile so contagious, a smile that will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his wife, Ruth Dillahunty; his sons, Greg and his wife, Becky, and Dale, Jr. Dillahunty and his wife, Daelyn; and daughter, Renee Holdsworth and husband, Faron; brother, Don and wife, Maxine; sister, Darla Newman and husband, Merv; Aunt Opal of Granite, Oklahoma; 13 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, one great-great grandson, and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
