The only child of Reed Bratton Robinson and Gladys Howard Robinson, he was born at home on South Main Street in Weatherford, TX. His life was defined by a strong Christian faith, love of country, love of family and a strong work ethic.
Growing up among a multitude of loved ones and friends, his childhood was filled with music, adventure, learning and love.
David learned to play piano beginning at age 5. As he grew, he expanded to brass instruments, playing in the Weatherford City Band and High School Band.
After graduating from Weatherford High School in 1940, he went on to Weatherford College and North Texas Teachers College. Like so many young men at the time, David’s education was interrupted by World War II. After Basic Training with the US Army, David was stationed in Naples, Italy, playing trumpet and cornet. As member of the military band, he played military formations, concerts, dances, retreats and funerals. Through invitation, he played with the San Carlo Symphony Orchestra in the Palm Theatre in Naples and made entertainment tours throughout Italy. In addition to military marches and classical music, they played the popular Big Band Music, David’s lifelong favorite. After victory was declared in Europe, the band led12,000 Allied troops parading through the streets of Naples, Italy. Leading the band was Drum Major PFC David Robinson.
After Honorable Discharge from the US Army Air Corps, David completed his BA in Business at North Texas Teachers College in Denton. He later returned to North Texas and earned his MBA.
A blind date in Dallas introduced David to Lillian Ray Evans, the love of his life. They married September 9, 1949 at Lakewood Baptist Church in Dallas.
David began his career teaching Distributive Education in west Texas high schools. Daughters Karen and Janet were born during those years. The family moved to Falls Church, Virginia where David worked for Distributive Education Clubs of America national operations in Washington DC. Ready to get back to Texas, he accepted a position in the billing department at Collins Radio Company. David and Ray raised their family in Richardson. They were active members of First Presbyterian Church where David sang tenor in the choir and served as Elder for the congregation. David served on the City of Richardson Plan Commission until he retired from Rockwell International in 1986.
David and Ray stayed active during retirement, playing golf and tennis, dancing, traveling and enjoying life and grandchildren. After 43 years of faithful marriage, Ray died of cancer in 1993. Life continued for David until, on another blind date he met Helen Baker. They married at First United Methodist Church in Dallas, enjoying retirement in Allen and Richardson, Texas.
David is survived by his wife, Helen, his daughters, Karen Muha and husband Richard of Garland, and Janet Mills and husband Ronnie of Fort Worth, and his grandchildren Sabita Maharaj, Barrett Muha and wife Kandice, Nathan Muha, and Devan Maharaj.
