Dee Dee Gatenby was born on July 10, 1963 in Monroe, LA and passed away July 15th, 2019 in Dallas, TX. She is preceded in death by her parents, Joseph V. and Nelwyn Hays Danna, paternal grandparents Anthony S. and Virginia Danna, and maternal grandparents, Henry B. and Zelma Hays. Survivors include her sister Angie Danna Hindmon and husband Jim, brother Joe Danna, Jr. and wife, Joanie all of Monroe, Louisiana and sister Sherri Danna Erskine and husband Graves of Georgetown, TX, as well as many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews. Also left to cherish her memory are special friends, Bobby Jones, Joanna Howard and Lyn Warner, who were with her at the end of this life.
Dee Dee graduated from St. Frederick High School in 1981 in Monroe, Louisiana. She went on to study at numerous universities, including Northeast Louisiana University in Monroe, University of Louisiana at Lafayette, and the University of North Texas. She has resided in Dallas, Texas with Bobby Jones for almost 20 years.
Dee Dee had many gifts. She was smart, funny and tough. Throughout her life, she was employed in various interesting occupations. She worked for several years with Continental Airlines, she sold plush toys to hospital gift shops and even starred in crime stopper reenactment videos.
Dee Dee was very competitive and a gifted athlete. She enjoyed sports and she enjoyed winning- be it softball, basketball or golf. She excelled at anything she played. She had the voice of a songbird and a gift for the guitar. She was well spoken and didn’t mind speaking her mind. A true friend, she was energetic, fun, and loyal. Dee Dee loved to travel. She loved the beach and especially the beaches in Hawaii.
She loved Bobby and her animals so much. Always feeding them, she enjoyed watching the birds, opossums, cats, racoons and squirrels. She loved her dog, Baxter, whom she took in after her mother passed away.
Known for her big beautiful eyes, long legs and blonde hair blowing in the wind while she drove her vintage red mustang convertible, her larger than life presence will be forever remembered and missed.
A graveside service celebrating Dee Dee’s life will be held under the direction of Galbreath-Packard Funeral Home at Newberry Cemetery, 1815 Newberry Road, Millsap, TX 76066 on Friday, July 19 at 3:00.
