Emblem

Brigham "Dell" Young of Weatherford, Texas, was promoted to heaven on Sunday, November 24, 2024.

Dell was born in a house on Samuels Avenue in Fort Worth, Texas, on December 17, 1939, to Edmund and Pauline Young. He grew up in Fort Worth and attended Carter Riverside High School.

After high school, Dell enlisted in the United States Navy and graduated from the Naval Aviation Fundamentals School in Norman, Oklahoma, and the United States Naval Training Center in Millington, Tennessee. He distinguished himself in the Navy while serving as a Plane Captain and Crew Chief on Patrol Bombers, serving at Sigonella, Sicily and Rota, Spain.

Upon his return to civilian life, Dell earned his master’s degree at Texas Christian University. He joined Bell Helicopter, and as he often stated, by the grace of God was blessed with a wonderful 39-year career in which he held more job classifications than anyone in the history of the company, eventually being named President of Bell Helicopter Textron Canada.

He was the first recipient of the annual Bell Helicopter "Golden Helicopter Award" presented to outstanding members of management and was honored with the "Silver Knight of Management Award” for achievement as a professional manager.

As a member of North Side Baptist Church in Weatherford, Dell served as a deacon and Sunday school teacher and through many other ministries.

Dell was an avid writer and authored over 100 poems and wrote books about his Bell Helicopter career, his U.S. Navy service, and many short stories of life experiences. Dell committed to memory many chapters, verses, and favorite Psalms from the Bible, as well as many sermons. One of Dell’s favorite sermons was from S.M. Lockridge, from which he encouraged his grandson to write the song that became “That’s My King” recorded by CeCe Winans.

His greatest accomplishment was his 59 ½ year marriage to the love of his life Sharen, the most dedicated and loving wife God could have provided, and the blessing of being the father of their son, Dell Young, Jr. and daughter, Tia Agan. He loved his son-in-law, Patrick Agan and daughter-in-law, Crissy Young, as his own children. He delighted in grandchildren, Taylor and Ashley Agan, Ashlyn and Zach Reynolds, Aubrey and Brandon Ballinger, and Cody Young. He was further blessed with great-grandchildren, Beckham Reynolds and Adeline Agan, with another great grandson, Maverick Agan, on the way.

Dell was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Gerald Young, grandparents, aunts, uncles, and numerous close friends and relatives.

Dell Young was an extraordinary man whose entire life was focused on honoring Jesus Christ, while leading others to do the same. He will be missed, but his legacy lives on through his family and many friends.

A memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 27, 2024, at 10:00 a.m., at North Side Baptist Church, in Weatherford, Texas, with the visitation beginning at 9:00 a.m., one hour prior to the service.

Dell will be laid to rest at the Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery for military veterans.
