Dixie Bowers died at College Park Rehabilitation and Care Center in Weatherford on Tuesday, Feb. 13, 2018, during her 95th year of life. Formerly of DeCordova Bend, Dixie was a resident of Benbrook for 18 years. In October of 2016, she entered College Park, and the family appreciates the excellent care she received there.
Dixie will be cremated, and no service is scheduled at this time. A celebration of her life will be held at a later time and burial will be in Dallas-Fort Worth National Cemetery in Dallas, where her husband is buried.
Survivors include her son, Bobby Whiteside and wife, Nita; sister, Mary Ellen Lloyd; brothers, Dutch Mertens and Donnie Mertens all of Arkansas; grandchildren, Joe Whiteside and wife, Terri, of Fort Worth, Natalie LaCaille and husband, Hank, of Sunrise Beach, Lee Scarborough and wife, Kathy, of Weatherford; great-grandchildren, Private First Class Carter Lyon stationed in Germany, Zachary Lyon, Zane and Addie Whiteside, Matthew, Emily, and Andrew Scarborough; a loving extended family in Texas and Arkansas; Sheri Gordon, special neighbor; and Ken Brandon, close companion at College Park.
