D.L. Sosebee

July 28, 1928 — June 4, 2022

D.L. Sosebee, 93, went home to be with the Lord, on June 4, 2022. D.L. was born on July 28, 1928, to Elbert and Carrie Sosebee. He was born in the small town of Dennis, Texas, and was one of nine children, including two brothers and six sisters.

D.L. was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 70 years, Evelyn Sosebee; his daughter, Debra Wherry and husband, Steve; his son, Dee Sosebee, Jr. and wife, Lecretia; his stepchildren, Richard Walker, Myrna Vega and husband, Ray, and James Young and wife, Chom; and his sister, Betty Williams.

He is also survived by more grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren than a man can count. He was their “Papaw” and never have children been more loved on this earth than his grandkids were loved by their Papaw.

“Children are a gift from the LORD; they are a reward from Him. Children born to a man are like arrows in the hands of a warrior. How joyful is the man whose quiver is full of them!” Psalm 127:3-5b

D.L. definitely had a “quiver full” and he was surely blessed for it!

D.L. Sosebee lived most of his life in Parker County, Texas. He rode for the Comancheros Riding Club. He was a mason by trade - one of the best - and his masterful handiwork can still be seen throughout Parker County. He loved vacationing with his wife, Evelyn, taking their RV out for fishing trips, to attend Bluegrass festivals, and visit new places with family and friends. He was happiest when he was growing or building something. He was never idle. He could often be found outside working in his garden. No matter what he was growing, his green thumb was at work, making things beautiful, and he passed his love for growing things and building things on to his family.

He loved the Lord, and was a member of Emanuel Baptist Church, in Weatherford, Texas. His heart belonged to Jesus, and he knew His loving arms were waiting for him, to welcome him home.

D.L. was a man with a generous heart, never hesitating to help a neighbor in need. He taught his family what it meant to have a servant’s heart, always ready to do whatever was needed. He led by example, loving his wife with everything he had, giving his children a good life, doting and spoiling his grandchildren, and passing on a bit of his mischievousness to them when no one was looking. His passion for those he loved was unwavering. His greatest joys were his family, and he left a legacy of love and service for them to remember him by.

This man, who is so deeply loved by his family, had almost 94 years of fishing and farming, growing and building, sewing himself into the lives of his family. He had 70 years with the love of his life by his side, and they built a beautiful life together, the kind of life his family aspires to build. His love of family, his love of his wife, his infectious smile and laugh, as well as his endearing stubbornness, will live on forever in the lives of the people he loved best. He will be missed, but his memory and the gifts he left us will be treasured always.

D.L. will be laid to rest in a graveside service on Saturday, June 11th, at 10:00 a.m., at Bethel Cemetery, in Weatherford.
