Donald Dean "Don" Bumpas

Donald Dean "Don" Bumpas, 73, of San Angelo passed away on November 25, 2007. Don was born June 4, 1934, to Everett and Lena Bumpas. He grew up in San Angelo and as a child had fond memories of harvest time with his father's thrashing machine. Don graduated from Lake View High School. He was in the Marine Corp both active duty and reserve duty and attained the rank of staff sergeant.   Don married the love of his life, Willetta Ferrell April 18, 1959. They had one child, Craig Bumpas. He had a long successful career with ABF Freight System. His job took him to Monahans, Pecos, Indianapolis, Indiana, and Springfield, Ill. He retired after 30 years of dedicated service at which time he moved back to his beloved Texas. Later he and Willetta moved to Weatherford to be near their son and grandchildren. He enjoyed his retirement and took great pleasure in making new friends and renewing old acquaintances over coffee. He was known to his friends and loved ones as a "gentle giant". Don was a Christian and a member of First Baptist Church and willingly served on numerous committees, and was a proud member of the Open Door Class of First Baptist Church in Weatherford. He is survived by his wife, Willetta Bumpas of Weatherford, grandson, Christopher Bumpas, his wife Heather, their daughter Cadence of Midland, Texas, a granddaughter Tiffany Bumpas of New York City, NY, Craig's former wife, Terrie Bumpas and the mother of his grandchildren. He is also survived by a brother Lewis Bumpas and a sister Dixie Alexander of San Angelo.
