Donald McCarty age 78, passed away Monday, September 8th, 2014 at his home. Donald was born June 17th, 1936 in Mills County, Texas, to parents Lonnie McCarty and Myrtle Watkins McCarty. Donald met Carolyn Odom McCarty at Tarleton State University and they married in 1956. They had 58 wonderful years together. Living in Denton Texas for twelve years, Donald graduated from North Texas University with a degree in Business. Don was a devoted family man. Aside from relatives, his church family held a huge piece of his heart. He served at North Main Church of Christ for 36 years as an elder and bible teacher. He was loving and generous to his wife, children, and grandchildren. Their needs were of upmost importance to him.
After 41 years, Don retired from General Dynamic and Computer Science Corporation where he was Director of Advanced Planning. He had a strong work ethic and never wanted to miss a day of work. He truly worked at everything with all of his heart, as working for the Lord. His hobbies included anything pertaining to manual labor or accomplishment; especially his yard and country cabin. He and Carolyn loved to travel and both enjoyed the times she joined him as he worked in Franbrough, England, and their trip to Ireland. Many road trips were also taken throughout the states and Canada.
Preceding him in death are four sisters Vada Gregory, Myrle Luckie, Erlene Hitt, and Anita Hooker, and two brothers Doris and Travis McCarty. Left to follow his example and cherish his memory are his wife, Carolyn McCarty, daughter Crysta McCarty Smith and husband Richard Smith of Weatherford, Bradley McCarty and wife Cindy, also living in Weatherford, and Dr. Jeffery McCarty with his wife Shelley of Aledo. Precious grandchildren are Allison McCarty who lives in NewYork, Rachel McCarty of Weatherford, and still at home are Abby McCarty, Seth McCarty, Caleb McCarty, and Claire McCarty, Libby Smith, Madeline Smith, and Chandler Smith. Don leaves many nieces and nephews as well, to whom he remained very close.
Funeral: 10:00 a.m. Thursday, September 11, 2014 at North Main Church of Christ. Interment in Landruth Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Wednesday in the chapel at Galbreaith Pickard
