Dorothy was born March 12, 1927, to James M. Young and Viola G. Young, in Cushing, Oklahoma. She was active in the Order of the Rainbow and Civil Air Patrol. She sold war bonds and knitted squares for lap robes for the wounded in hospitals during WW2. Dorothy was on the Traffic Safety Commission for Hurst. She was Vice President of Need a Social Service, in Hurst, as well as a volunteer for the HEB School District. Dorothy worked on a project set up by the University of North Texas in which Laotian students were taught English; she had three students. Dorothy also taught computer math to 2nd graders. Upon retirement, she and her husband moved to their ranch, Pickering Beefmasters, in Parker County. At that time, Dorothy served as ranch manager.
She is survived by her son, David; daughters, Karen and Gretchen; five grandchildren; four great grandchildren; and one great-great granddaughter.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband of 66 years, Manuel; parents; son, James; sister, Peggy; brother, Jim Young and his wife, Emily.
Memorials may be made to Brock United Methodist Church.
A visitation is scheduled from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Thursday, November 2, 2023, at Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm St., Weatherford, Texas 76086.
A graveside service will begin at 2:00 p.m., Friday, November 3, 2023, at Brock Cemetery, in Brock, Texas.
