She was a faithful and devoted member of Central Church of Christ at Weatherford. She was born Dorothy Maye Miller, August 28, 1920 in Santo, Texas to Myrtle Roulston and James Isaac Miller. Dorothy spent her childhood on a farm in Natty Flat, and graduated from Lipan High School. She had to develop a strong work ethic as a child in order to do most of the work on the farm to help provide for the necessities of life for her family. This strong work ethic and an able body, combined with an invincible spirit, remained throughout the most of her many years. She applied herself 100 percent to any pursuit, even to continue on to higher education at age 53. She graduated from San Angelo State University at age 55 with a Bachelor of Science degree as a Registered Nurse. She did not fully retire from the health-care field until age 83. Dorothy also rigorously pursued a career in the Arts. She was an accomplished painter and an award- winning creator of “all things” in the field of ceramics. She opened several ceramic shops where she inspired and taught many others to paint. In between her nursing and ceramics, she roofed and plumbed houses and mastered all kinds of needle work when she would finally sit down.
She was preceded in death by Foster Carroll, Irey Pilkington, Joe Hutchins and by an infant son, Devon Carroll, and Jack B. (Pete) Carroll and grandson Kevin Carroll and great grandson Jordan Paredes.
She will be greatly missed by her daughter-in law Sandra Carroll, grandchildren Clint (and Sharon) Carroll, Kayla (and Roy) Calderon, Kelley (and Bill) Jackson and their families including many great and great-great grandchildren. Certainly other family members, friends and her church family will greatly miss her presence on this side of the veil even as a host of loved ones welcome her home.
