Douglas Leroy Finch was born on March 12, 1934, in Quanah, Texas, to Amy Gertrude Woods Finch and Clarence Church Finch. He met his Lord and Savior on November 12, 2021. Douglas attended North Side High School in Fort Worth, Texas where he played football, basketball and went to state in the high jump. Douglas married the love of his life, Bonnie Jo Janes on March 25, 1955, and together they made their home in Parker County. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Weatherford, 60-year member of the Masonic Lodge and Scottish Rite. Douglas served in the Texas National Guard, Millsap ISD School Board, a director of the Parker County Livestock Improvement Association, and Parker County Sheriff’s Posse.
He was also a member of the Plumber and Steam Fitters local # 146 for twelve years before he started Finch Backhoe Service; his son joined in the business for eight years until his retirement at age 75. Douglas loved his family, enjoyed fishing, growing things, caring for his cattle, gospel music and watching sports, especially when his grandkids were playing. After he retired, he and Bonnie enjoyed traveling in their R.V.
He was preceded in death by parents, five brothers, and one sister.
Douglas is survived by his wife of 66 years, Bonnie; daughter, Darla Finch Henry; son, Steven Finch and wife, Kim, all of Weatherford. He was PawPaw to four grandchildren, Cole Henry, Race Henry and wife, Chelsea, Halee Finch Zelt and husband, Toby, and Sawyer Finch; four great grandchildren, Charli Henry, Griffin Henry, Finlee Zelt, and Emerson Zelt; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and many, many dear friends.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 17, 2021, at First Baptist Church in Weatherford. Memorials may be made to Scottish Rite for Children at https://scottishriteforchildren.org/ or St. Jude Children’s Research at https://www.stjude.org/.
