Edgar Robert Baker, Sr. (Ed), age 97, of Weatherford, Texas, passed away January 24, 2022, in Weatherford, Texas. He was born September 15, 1924, in Dunellen, New Jersey, the son of William Neil Baker and Georgianne Almyra (Arrington) Brandley. He served in the US Army for six years and was a veteran of World War II.
He was pre-deceased by his loving wife and best friend Maudie Imogene “Jean” (Smith) Baker of Weatherford, his parents, and his siblings.
Edgar was a long-time resident of Weatherford and is survived by a large family who loved him and honor his memory. Daughters – Martha Goldie Baker, Mary Grayce Babcock, Rebecca Estelle Tuckett; and sons, Edgar Robert Baker Jr., William Arthur Baker, and Charles Glen Baker. He is also survived by his step-daughters, Pat Sullivan, of Abilene, TX and Jackie Beauvais, of Weatherford, TX, a wonderful daughter who has loved and cared for him these past years. Edgar has 31 grandchildren, 91 great-grandchildren, and 6 great-great-grandchildren.
Mr. Baker was a member of the Weatherford Police Academy and enjoyed working with the members of the Weatherford Police Department. He served in South Vietnam as a helicopter mechanic; he also owned his own business – Baker’s Refrigerator, Air Conditioning, and Appliance Service. Ed was also a retired school bus driver of route #7 which he drove for 18 years for the W.I.S.D. He was a member of the North Side Baptist Church.
He will be interred in the East Greenwood Cemetery on February 4, 2022 @ 11:00 a.m. In place of flowers, please donate to the American Cancer Society.
