  Eugene David Smith, 82, of Euless passed away Monday, February 4, 2008, at his residence.  

  Gene was born September 13, 1925, in Jack County, Texas, he was a resident of HEB since 1961. He and his wife, Ava, opened Hurst Jewelry and Gifts in 1961, where he was a watch maker. Gene was a member of Jacksboro Church of Christ, the VFW, American Legion and was former President of the Lion's Club. He received a Purple Heart while serving his country in Germany during WWII in the US Army. 

  Gene is survived by his wife of 50 years: Ava; sons: Danny Kite and wife, Melody of Hurst and Ronnie Kite and wife, Sharron of Bedford; sisters: Etta Jean Hensley and Florence Anderson, both of Jacksboro; sister-in-law: Johnnie Smith of Decatur; grandchildren: Shane Kite, Christine Jones, Katherine Kite, Jason Kite, and Richard Kite; mothers to his grandchildren: Linda Kenemore and Wilma Kite; eight great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.  

  Funeral service: 11:00 a.m., Friday, in the Galbreaith Pickard Funeral Chapel. Burial: Brock Cemetery. Visitation: 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Wednesday, at the funeral home.
