Eva Dell Grote passed away surrounded by loving family and friends on Thursday, May 23, 2013 at her home in Weatherford, Texas. She was 61.
Eva Dell was born in Madisonville, Texas to her parents James and Madre Hopkins. Being the 9th out of 13 kids meant there was always something going on at their childhood home in Midway, Texas.
After graduating from Madisonville High, Eva moved to College Station, Texas where she met Gary Grote. The two dated for a year and a half and married on August 7, 1972. Mrs. Grote worked as a secretary at Texas A&M University to help put Gary through Vet School. After graduation, the two moved to St. Louis, Missouri. Soon, they got homesick and decided to make Weatherford their home. She helped set up Grote Veterinary Clinic at 819 Santa Fe Drive. With things settled, she fulfilled her dream of going to college. She studied Criminal Justice and graduated from both, Weatherford College and Tarleton State University. She worked as an Adult Probation Officer for Parker County for eight years. She then returned to manage the office for the Grote Veterinary Clinic.
Eva is survived by her husband, Gary Grote of Weatherford; daughter Nikki and Fiancee’ James Rhodes, and grandson Tucker Morton of Weatherford; son, Gabe and his wife Elizabeth, and grandson Walker of Fort Worth.
She is also survived by the following family members: David Williams and his wife Sundee, their children Shelly, Amy, and Cody of Gilbert, Arizona; sister, Irene Beathard of Kingsland; brother James Earl Hopkins of Livingston; brother, Willie Gene Hopkins of Midway; brother, Charlie Hopkins of Cossie; sister, Mary Ann Mash of Deer Park; brother, Harrold Dean Hopkins of Buffalo; brother John Wayne Hopkins of Bedias; sister, Barbara Ann Rudy of Waco; sister, Sarah Donahoe of Midway; and sister Marie Driver of Midway.
She is preceded in death by father, James Hopkins; mother, Modree Baker Hopkins; sisters Dixie Mae Kelly, and Lettie Pearl Bowlding.
Funeral services will be held, 11:00 am Saturday May 25, 2013, in the Couts United Memorial Methodist Church with interment in the Bethel Cemetery. Visitation is to be held Friday 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
