Gale Malone Bradford died September 15, 2022. She was 85 years old.
A Weatherford native, Mrs. Bradford graduated from Weatherford High School in 1956. She attended the University of Texas and the University of Texas School of Dental Hygiene in Houston.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Maurine and James Malone, of Weatherford, and an infant son. Gale is survived by her husband of almost 65 years, Bob Bradford of Weatherford, her children; Mark, Jim and Robyn, her sister Pat Plant and brother and sister - in - law Mike and Ann Malone; Six grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bradford studied writing at the Weatherford College and Texas Christian University and became lifestyle editor at the Weatherford Democrat in the 1980’s. in 1987, she was awarded the Texas UPI Editors Association Outstanding Achievement award. In 1989, she was awarded the Print Media award for reporting information relating to child abuse. She was also recognized as Outstanding Clubwoman representing Parker County Child Protective Services Board.
Active in the community, Ms. Bradford served on the Weatherford Economic Development Board, was a director of the Weatherford Chamber of Commerce, 1991-1993, and served as communications chair of the Parker County Unit of the American Cancer Society, Texas Division, Inc.
She served as president of the St. Stephen Catholic Church Altar Society and co-founded the first St. Stephen annual festival that raised funds to build and relocate St. Stephen to 1801 Bethel Rd.
Mrs. Bradford loved her work reporting news and writing feature stories for both the Weatherford Democrat and the Fort Worth Star-Telegram for about 15 years. At retirement, she wrote newsletters for two pharmacies, press releases for various clubs and committees she represented and did feature stories for local publications.
She joined the Save the Mount Pleasant Colored School committee and was a founding member of the Chandor Gardens Foundation, Inc. She served 13 years on the Weatherford Parks and Recreation Board and several terms as vice-chair of the City of Weatherford Planning and Zoning Commission.
Mrs. Bradford loved her family, her community and was proud of her community involvement and enjoyed sharing her talents for the benefit of those she served. But she counted being a longtime cancer survivor and close friend to many as her greatest accomplishments.
Funeral service: 11 am, Saturday, October 8, 2022 at St Stephen Catholic Church.
