Garry Layne Hammond

  Garry Layne Hammond, a cherished member of our community, passed away on January 18, 2025, at the age of 77. Born October 30, 1947, in Eunice, New Mexico, to Jimmy W. Hammond and Lucille (Jones) Hammond, Garry lived a life marked by dedication and an unwavering commitment to those he loved.

  Throughout his life, Garry was a pillar of strength for many; he enjoyed teaching children and volunteering in his community. He worked for the Springtown I.S.D. for 30 years. After retirement, he went to work for Goshen Elementary in Springtown as a substitute teacher for 11 years, where he was awarded the PTA Life Achievement Award, in 2021. Garry served his community as a Volunteer Fireman, and was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Springtown.

  Garry was preceded in death by his parents, Jimmy and Lucille Hammond.

  He is survived by his beloved wife, Charlotte Marie Hammond of Springtown, Texas; two daughters, Jenifer Jones and Melanie Wilson and husband, Zachary; three grandsons, Tyler Jones and wife, Ciandra, Austin Jones, and Slade Wilson; and one great-granddaughter, Everly Jones.

  Additional survivors include his twin brother, Larry Hammond and wife, Frances; brother, Freddie Hammond and wife, Judy; brother, Jimmy Hammond and wife, Cathy; sister, Robin Hammond and husband, Alan Zeutzius; and a plethora of nieces and nephews. His legacy will endure in the hearts of all who knew him.

  Garry's memory will be honored during a memorial service scheduled for 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 25, 2025, at the First Baptist Church of Springtown, located at 500 North Main Street, Springtown, Texas 76082. 

 The funeral chapel is not involved in the service.
