Garry Alva Thomas, 82, passed away April 20, 2024, in Weatherford, Texas.
Visitation will be held at Galbreath Pickard Funeral Chapel at 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., on Friday, April 26th, in Weatherford, Texas. A graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Park at 2:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 27th, in Athens, Texas.
He was born in Paris, Texas, on September 20, 1941, to Katy and Henry Thomas. He had two brothers, Sonny Thomas and his identical twin Larry Thomas. He spent most of his life living in Athens, Texas where he went to high school and enjoyed participating in athletics and was a key member of the Hornet football teams. After graduating from Athens High School Garry received a football scholarship to Texas Christian University to play for Coach Abe Martin. Upon graduating college, he spent most of his professional career in retail as a manager for JC Penney and Beall’s in numerous Texas locations. Garry’s passion has always been to serve other people whether it is family or customers. Garry met his wife of 63 years, Betty while in school at TCU.
Garry was preceded in death by his son, Kelly Thomas; his older brother, Sonny and identical twin, Larry; along with his parents, Henry and Katy. He is survived by his wife, Betty Thomas; his oldest son, Tracy Thomas and wife, Kym of Temple, Texas; his daughter, Kim Scoggin and husband, Richard of Weatherford, Texas; his daughter-in-law, Suzie Thomas of Leander, Texas; and eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers.
