Gary Lee Beck, 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, February 9, 2025.
Born in Weatherford, Texas, on April 22, 1940, to Vernon and Kathryn (Kirks) Beck, Gary remained deeply connected to his hometown throughout his life. A proud graduate of Weatherford High School, Class of 1958, he was a dedicated supporter of the district and was even nominated for the WHS Distinguished Service Award.
After high school, Gary attended Tarleton State College, where he participated in ROTC and was a member of the Wainwright Rifles Drill Team. He later continued his education at Weatherford College before earning his degree from Texas Christian University in 1965. While at TCU, he worked alongside the Athletic Director, teaching bowling, handball, wrestling, and beginning gymnastics.
For over 30 years, Gary was a beloved DECA teacher at Weatherford High School, inspiring countless students and helping to fund their futures through the school's scholarship program. Beyond the classroom, he worked the home concession stands at WHS and district games for 27 years, missing only five games during his entire tenure. The funds raised allowed DECA students to attend district conferences and sponsor lunches for teachers and staff. Under his guidance, one of his students placed third in a national competition, which took them to Colorado and California.
A man of deep faith and service, Gary was a devoted member of Central Christian Church and volunteered extensively within his community. He contributed countless hours to Weatherford Regional Hospital, helped serve free community meals, and assisted with the city’s Thanksgiving Dinner outreach. Additionally, he spent the past three years helping instruct children at The Karate University.
His love for mentoring extended beyond his career. He once coached the Weatherford Dodgers farm team to a winning season in 1960-1961, served as a scout leader when his children were young, and helped organize the WHS Class of 1958’s homecoming float for their 50th reunion in 2008.
Gary was preceded in death by his beloved son, David Beck; his parents; and his infant sister, Renata Beck.
He leaves behind a loving family who will forever cherish his memory: his daughter, Jennifer O'Rear and husband, Eric; son, Paul Beck; daughter, Abbi Wood; daughter, Wendy Lank; and son, Bryan "B" Lank and wife, Sara. He was a proud grandfather to Chandler Beagle, Cameron Beagle, Kaleb Meyer, Brayden Meyer, Trevyn Beck and wife, Breelyn, Kaylyn Lyle and husband, Jerry, Rhiannon Mason, and Addison Faith Aguilar, and a great-grandfather to Nikko Lyle and Violet Mae Beck. He is also survived by his good friend, Betty Peoples.
