Born to Paul and Nina Slough on March 18, 1946, in San Angelo, Texas. Gene grew up in Midland, graduated from Midland High School, and married his soulmate Phyllis on December 11, 1967. Together they raised two daughters and a son. Gene began working for International Harvester, now International Navastar, when he was only 18 years old and only worked for two employers throughout his life. He was employed by Southwest International in Fort Worth, alongside his son, since he moved the family from Midland to Weatherford in 1986.
Survived by his wife Phyllis of Granbury, children, Kimberley & Pat Cherryhomes, Shanna & Wayne Slimp, Michael and Elizabeth Slough, and grandchildren, Colton, Nina Nicole, and Sierra Cherryhomes, Garrett and Jacob Slimp, Talon and Kaileigh Slough, all of Weatherford, Texas. Also, survived by his siblings Robert & Denise Slough and Paula & Charlie Hollis of Houston, Lyndia Benton and Mike Metcalf of Midland, and numerous nephews, nieces, great nephews and nieces.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to Kidds Kids, the organization that gives hope and happiness to families of children with life altering conditions by taking them to Disney World, which was Gene’s favorite place in the World. Funeral 10:00am Saturday, April 1, 2017 at Couts Memorial United Methodist Church in Weatherford. Graveside 1:00pm Sunday, April 2, 2017 at Harpersville Cemetery in Breckenridge.
