George Franklin Bearden Sr.

George Franklin Bearden, 89, of Weatherford, passed into the presence of the Lord, Monday evening, October 19, 2015, at home, surrounded by his family.
 
George was born in Waxahachie, Texas on March 5, 1926. During the depression, George and his family worked farms in North and West Texas, eventually settling for good in Waxahachie.  The youngest of three brothers and a sister, George joined the US Army after high school and was deployed to the Pacific Theater as a Combat Engineer. Upon returning home, he married the woman who would become his wife of 65 years, Dorothy Earle Hollabough, also of Waxahachie.
 
George answered the call to preach as a young man, eventually attending Jacksonville Baptist College and Jacksonville Baptist Theological Seminary. George and Dorothy would travel to several cities and churches across Texas for the Baptist Missionary Association, including San Antonio, Dallas, Paris, and his last pastorate in Mineral Wells. Universally regarded as extraordinarily sincere and warm, George ranked year-in and year-out as one of the top appliance salesman for Montgomery Ward and Co., a job he enjoyed to help augment a pastor's salary. Although an evangelist at heart, the center of George's universe was his three children for whom he would do anything, including never missing a soccer game or special event, if his kids were involved. A caring pastor to many, he was a loving daddy to his children and eventually, to his grandchildren. Living a simple and committed life, George never received accolades or acclaim while on earth, nor did he amass any wealth. What he did leave, though, is far beyond measure in the value of his love and sacrifice for his family and friends. His heart was to spread the Gospel and see Jesus exalted. George was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy, in 2012.
 
He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Lin and Martha Bearden of Weatherford, a son and daughter-in-law, Tony and Cindy Bearden of Poolville, and a daughter and son-in-law, Kim and David Cherry of Gordon. Seventeen grandchildren survive: Catherine, Jessica, Victoria, Lauren, Savannah, Noah, Joshua, Landry, Jakob, Zachary, Katie, Gideon, Caleb, Emily, John, Michael, and Brittany. Also surviving is his sister-in-law, Isobel Farrar of Dallas, brother-in-law Ray Hollabough of San Angelo, as well as numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
 
Visitation will be from 7 pm to 9 pm, Thursday night at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Home in Weatherford. Graveside services for family and friends will be Friday at 10 am at the Homewood-on-the-Brazos Cemetery in Santo, Texas on the Comanche Bend Ranch of Bill and Anita Gardner. In case of rain making access to the cemetery difficult, the graveside will be held the following week.
