Glenn “Doug” Douglas Shumaker, 59, of Weatherford, passed away suddenly on Tuesday evening, October 27, at Weatherford Regional Medical Center in Weatherford.
Doug was born October 4, 1956, in Andrews Texas to John Wesley and Bettie Lee Shumaker. He proudly served his country in the US Army upon graduation from high school. He went on to study at Southwestern Seminary. Doug worked as a real-estate salesman at DR Horton. Prior to that, Doug worked in the oil field. Doug will be remembered as a “gentle/quiet man” and was a known jokester. He enjoyed playing and watching basketball and working in his yard and garden with his peach trees. Most of all, Doug cherished time spent with his family – particularly his children and grandchildren and spending time with his beloved cat, “Kitty.”
Doug is survived by his wife, Cheryl Hughes; his mother, Bettie Lee Shumaker; children, Crystal, Courtney, Chelsea, Cody Shumaker, Michelle Hayes, Tara Woody and Micah Hughes; sister, Donna Elaine Patterson, and by his brothers, James Wesley Shumaker and Howard Stanley Shumaker; and by his 6 grandchildren; and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Doug was preceded in death by his father, John Wesley Shumaker and by his sister, Joy Shumaker.
A memorial service celebrating his life will be held at 7:00 P.M., on Friday evening, October 30, 2015 at Galbreaith-Pickard Funeral Chapel, 913 N. Elm Street, in Weatherford.
Visitation with the family will be held from 5:00 until 7:00, Friday evening, at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Research. Burial will be private.
