Harold Dwight Bishop, age 94, peacefully passed away on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Born on November 23, 1929, in Norris City, Illinois, Harold was the son of Elton and Bessie (Hill) Bishop. He later pursued his education, earning a bachelor's degree. One thing about Harold, no one ever called him Harold. Anyone that knew him, it was just Bishop. He always said that he, “could have been a King, but Bishop will do.”

Bishop served his country with honor in the United States Air Force as a photographer on the Convair B-36 Peacemaker bomber during the Korean War. The National Museum of the United States Air Force notes that the B-36 had a range of over 7,000 miles, typically carrying a crew of 15, or 22 for strategic reconnaissance missions, including camera equipment and 14,000 pounds of photo flash bombs for night photography.

After his military service, Bishop had a distinguished career as a supervisor for the Texas Workforce Employment Commission. A proud property owner in Dripping Springs and at the White family dairy farm north of Weatherford, he had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed working the land. Bishop enjoyed lunch after a hard morning’s work with his wife, Jackie Mae, at the Salt Lick BBQ. He will be fondly remembered for his quiet, courteous demeanor and his deep appreciation for music, especially the songs of Frank Sinatra.

Bishop was preceded in death by his parents, Elton and Bessie Bishop, and his beloved wife, Jackie Mae Bishop.

He is survived by his cousins, James W. Fogerson and wife, Sue, and Glenn White and wife, Peggy, both of Weatherford, Texas, along with cousin, Donna Strickland and husband, Jim of Fredericksburg, Texas; his sister-in-law, June Holliday of Longview, Texas; and his brother-in-law, Jimmy White of Kerrville, Texas.

A graveside service will be held at a later date at Memory Gardens Cemetery, in Weatherford, Texas.
